Tammy Abraham rescued Roma against Napoli, scoring his first goal in almost exactly a year since he missed months due to an ACL tear. A strong finish by the Englishman could have a big impact on their transfer market plans, Il Messaggero relayed (via OneFootball).

The major injury, which he suffered in May, has already affected his future. Following a poor season, the Giallorossi were ready to sell him to a Premier League side. Instead, they were forced to keep him and eventually added Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Abraham has looked bouncy in his return, and he’s more likely to be the top Roma center-forward next season than the former Blues and Inter star. Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t ruled out his permanence at Stamford Bridge following an okay campaign.

Despite his desire, confirming the Belgian has always been a long shot for the Giallorossi given his sizeable price tag and salary and their Financial Fair Play restriction. The choice would be a lot easier if they already had another player in-house on whom they could lean. The Englishman will have a few more games to prove himself down the stretch.

Our Take on Roma, Abraham, and Lukaku

There’s still a chance neither stays put, as the former took a clear step back in 2022/2023. It’ll depend on whether he receives some offers. Thanks to his improved mobility and energy, he’s a better fit for Daniele De Rossi’s scheme.
