Carlo Ancelotti believes Cristiano Ronaldo and Vinicius Junior are ‘different’ and admits he had not planned to sit deep in the first half against Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti’s Real Madrid were held to an away 2-2 draw by Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals on Tuesday.

Brazilian star Vinicius Junior opened the account in the first half and levelled the score from the spot at minute 83.

Even if Madrid took the lead in the first half, Ancelotti didn’t particularly enjoy his team’s performance before the break.

“We had not planned to keep a low defensive line,” Ancelotti told Sportmediaset last night.

“We were too passive and we didn’t put in enough intensity. We suffered more in the first half than in the second half even if we conceded both goals in the second half.”

Ancelotti coached Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid so he was asked if he saw any similarity with Vini Jr.

“They are different players. Cristiano made Real Madrid’s fortune in the past, Vini is doing it now. Surely they are great talents.”

Ancelotti is the most winning coach in Champions League history, having lifted the trophy four times.
