Vermont is one of the states in the path of the solar eclipse this year (and to clarify the phrasing there, the solar eclipse does not happen every year, or even close to it).

Officials at Jay Peak announced that there are some "exceptional operational details" to know for the eclipse occurring on Monday, April 8th. See below.

Before getting into the details, it's worth noting that Jay Peak is directly in the path of totality during the solar eclipse of 2024.

In fact, Jay Peak is the closest major ski area to the phenomenon in the entire United States. Northern Vermont is the best spot on the East Coast north of Florida to land in that path.

So, if you do choose to watch from Jay Peak, here's what you need to know:

Parking will be affected by the event. Only the main Tramside Entrance will be open so the resort can better monitor access to the resort. Parking Attendants will be parking cars as efficiently as possible but once we’re full, access to Jay Peak will be limited.

Lifts will open earlier than normal, at 7:30am, but the upper mountain lifts close at 12:30pm.

At 2:00pm, the lower mountain lifts close for the eclipse. Lifts re-open at 4pm.

At 4pm, there is a scheduled event: the Science Behind the Eclipse with Meteorologist and Science Educator Chris Kudek.

Pink Talking Fish will be performing the Darkside of the Moon album leading up to totality. Alice’s Table Patio on Tramside..

At 5:30, the final lifts, Metro and Taxi, close.

Uphill Travel is not recommended, and Ski Patrollers will be stationed at key points across the mountain to turn people back. Also, tram rides are sold out at this time.

However, if you can make it, it will be a jam-packed day and a historic natural event to remember.
