Watch: Braves lose no-hitter in the most brutal fashion

The Atlanta Braves on Saturday appeared destined for a no-hitter – and then disaster struck. The disaster’s name was J.D. Martinez.

The Braves had a combined no-hitter going with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning against the New York Mets at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y.

Martinez represented the final out the Braves needed to complete their first no-hitter in over 30 years. But the Mets slugger spoiled the celebration by taking Braves closer Raisel Iglesias deep on the first pitch he saw.

The Braves lost the no-hitter and the 4-0 shutout all on one swing.

Martinez effectively saved himself from being on the wrong end of Braves highlight reels for years to come. The home run was also Martinez’s first as a Met in 14 games played this season.

Perhaps the "FOX Sports: MLB" account on X was to blame for the lost no-hitter. It broke the cardinal rule by acknowledging the no-hitter with a post after a clean eighth inning.

Lost no-hitter aside, the Braves still got a sterling performance from starting pitcher Max Fried. The 30-year-old lefty no-hit the Mets through seven innings but couldn’t finish the job given his bloated pitch count.

Fried threw 109 pitches on Saturday while recording five strikeouts and three walks.
