Gerrit Cole basically said farewell to the Houston Astros and their fans the second the 2018 season ended, but his wife waited until the right-hander found a new employer to express her gratitude.
On Tuesday, Cole’s wife Amy wrote a lengthy post on Instagram thanking the Astros and fans in Houston for two great years. Amy said she and Gerrit will “always remember Houston as a happy home.”

That is probably the approach Astros fans wish Gerrit would have taken, even if he knew he was not going to re-sign with the team. Instead, Cole savagely referred to himself as “not an employee of the team” not even an hour after Houston lost Game 7 of the World Series. He also wore a hat from agent Scott Boras’ company rather than an Astros hat. Cole seemed to try to make amends with a statement he released the following day, but many fans in Houston were already soured on him by then.
Cole signed a record-breaking, $324 million deal with the New York Yankees this month, so his time in Houston certainly served him well.
